No one’s school space should be so quiet, especially a music teacher’s! Although not wearing shoes is pretty great. Missing the routine a lot, but still feeling the Sunday night/Monday morning stress minus the commute. Lots to learn during this time. Here’s my new work assistant. Do you have one? --Sandy
Today begins the first full week away from Mahoney. There’s snow on the way, though we won’t be declaring a snow day. We will be doing Mahoney From Home for this week and for the next few weeks. We are trying to find the normal rhythm in this, but most of us don’t feel that just yet.
Teachers could return to Mahoney today and tomorrow briefly, once they have let Mrs. Stilphen know when they are coming, to pick up any books, supplies or equipment they may have forgotten to bring home last week. Tracy and the rest of our fantastic custodian crew are busy disinfecting every surface in the building, so after Tuesday, no one will be allowed in. We will know that Mahoney is clear and ready for our return as soon as we get the word. As Sandy Barry wrote, it’s just too quiet there. But the sound of learning will be back.
More students are connecting with teachers each day and completing short reinforcement activities. We aren’t at 100% but doing our best to get there. There is news about more Internet access for families that don’t have that coming from the State and Network Maine. Phone calls are being made to help connect those who haven’t checked in just yet. We are practicing our remote teaching skills with the idea that we will move forward with new material and learning units before long. There will be informal PD online everyday to fine tune our distance teaching and to introduce new apps and services that are free, easy to use, and most of all, effective. Today’s discovery is Loom, the best screencasting app I’ve seen. I think it’s going to be a mainstay for delivering new content for many teachers.
I heard someone singing “It’s just another pandemic Monday” a la the Bangles today. Not manic, though not calm and comfortable either. Got to keep smiling.
8 days down.
