Website link: Vaping: The Target is Our teens
In cooperation with the Scarborough Public Schools, MaineHealth is pleased to bring the public an informational class on the youth epidemic of e-cigarettes (also known as JUUL and vaping).
Join a panel of Maine experts for an interactive discussion on vaping and electronic nicotine delivery systems (ENDS). Find out about what your teens likely already know about vaping and what young Mainers are telling our panelists about how they are using these products. You will also have an opportunity to see some of the most common devices, receive tips from a local high school substance abuse counselor on how to talk to teens about vaping and get the latest information on Maine law regarding ENDS and usage among Maine teens. Join us to get your questions answered so you can be better prepared to talk to the teens in your life.
Panelists:
Jill Frame, MSW, Substance Abuse Counselor, Yarmouth High School
Becky Smith, Government Relations Director, American Heart/Stroke Association
Kristen McAuley, MPH, Director of Tobacco Prevention, MaineHealth
Nikki Jarvais, Tobacco counter-advertising expert, Rinck Advertising
Certificates of attendance available upon request.
Scholarships available upon request.
Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death in the United States and a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease – the nation’s number 1 killer. The American Heart Association is active in Maine’s legislative and regulatory arenas to promote healthful policies that prevent and reduce tobacco use, especially among youth, as well as protecting non-smokers from exposure to secondhand smoke.
Instead of charging for this class, we are accepting donations to the American Heart Association.
