Senator Bromley to Host Forum on School Consolidation Plans
AUGUSTA—Senator Lynn Bromley (D-Cumberland County) of South Portland will be hosting an informational forum for the residents of South Portland and Cape Elizabeth to discuss the various proposals for school consolidation. The meeting is open to the public; all are invited to attend.
Various proposals are being considered by the Maine State Legislature. Each of these proposals takes a different path to achieve savings in administrative costs. Alternatives to the Governor’s plan include legislation supported by the Maine Children’s Alliance and sponsored by Sen. Libby Mitchell (D-Kennebec County), a bill from a group of organizations led by the Maine Municipal Association sponsored by Senate President Beth Edmonds (D-Cumberland County), a measure plan proposed by the State Board of Education from Senator Rotundo (D-Androscoggin County) and finally a bill by Senator Karl Turner (R-Cumberland County).
“I’m looking forward to a discussion of the different ways we could improve Maine’s education system,” Senator Bromley stated. “There are many adjustments we could make in order to provide quality education for our children at lower costs. But any changes that we implement make must be based on input from the community, not merely imposed from above. I am looking forward to hear what the people think should be done.”
The forum will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Waldo T. Skillin Elementary School, 180 Westcott Rd, South Portland.
For more information call Senator Bromley’s office at 287-1515.
