Dance Guidelines

Mahoney Dance Guidelines

Many thanks to our chaperones for helping to make Mahoney dances a safe and fun event for everyone! Here some guidelines to follow:

Only students currently enrolled at Mahoney are able to attend.
All students enter from the back parking lot, single file.
Students will leave jackets, backpacks, duffle bags in the back hall area.
Once a student enters the dance, s/he cannot leave except in the following situations:
They are ill and call home. An administrator needs to supervise this.
They are being sent home due to behavior. An administrator will supervise this.
A parent may come and take their child home early.
Running, slam dancing, grinding, twirling and acrobatics are not permitted. Rough housing is also not permitted. Students will be spoken to once by any chaperone. The second time they will be asked to sit out for a specified period of time with administrator supervision. In the event that the behavior continues to be an issue, a parent will be called and the student will be sent home.
Students who are sent home from the dance are not able to attend the next school dance.
Students who owe comebacks or have skipped detentions are not allowed to attend the dance.
Students who are not in school on the day of the dance or who are dismissed due to illness will not be allowed to attend. Any exceptions will need to be cleared through the office by noon time on the day of the dance.

Chaperone Responsibilities:
Parents will be paired up with a staff member when supervising the dance floor.
Parents will be assigned posts at bathrooms and stairways to help monitor these areas.
Students are aware of the guidelines for dance behavior. Parents should feel free to speak to students if they are not following the above guidelines.
If you speak to a student and see that the behavior has not changed, please contact a staff member to ask for assistance.
If you have trouble with a student due to rudeness please let a staff person know.
