Our school day officially begins at 8:10 with our cafeteria serving breakfast. All students should be in their homerooms no later than 8:30 and the period 1 class begins at 8:35.
8th Grade Social: Please take a minute to view the sign up genius if you are willing and able to donate items or volunteer time for the 8th grade social. Our next meeting is tonight (Wednesday May 23rd) at 6pm in the Mahoney Library. As a reminder the 8th grade social is June 2nd, 7-9pm at the SPHS Cafeteria - bring permission slips back to the main office ASAP!
Homework Club will start Monday and run from 2:50-3:50 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting.. Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.
Yearbook: Have you forgotten to order a yearbook? If so, orders will be available until the end of this week. The cost is $27 and orders can be placed before or after school with Mr. Patashnik in room 122.
SOPO Teen Center:
The Teen Center is open Monday through Thursday from 2:30-5:30 and closed on Fridays.
Music:
6th percussionists are reminded of their trip to the HS today: that is Cole, Eva, Rocco and Haven. You will be called to the office around 9 a.m.
The combined bands and color guard will march for the final time today. We start at 1:45. Students will be called down. Thank you all.
7th and 8th band members and color guard: Nursery school permission slips are due! We also STILL need more parent chaperones! A reminder to come to school tomorrow morning dressed for this event.
Mahoney Band T-Shirts are in. Make sure you get yours TODAY. 7th and 8th graders need their red shirts and jeans for TOMORROW.
Color Guard will rehearse TODAY with the combined band. After school is optional or for retaping poles..
Training Jazz is now be Spring Jazz! New members are welcome to join us. We rehearse on Thursday morning.

There will be an informational meeting on Thursday, May 24th at 6:30 p.m. in the lecture hall at South Portland High School for all returning players and any middle school students interested in playing volleyball at the high school during the fall 2018 season. This meeting will provide information about summer volleyball sessions and the preseason.
In the case of inclement weather, decisions are made by 1:00/1:30 on whether or not practices/games will be held. Students will be notified via whole school announcement and updates will be put on the Mahoney announcements webpage.

Lacrosse - Open to 7th and 8th graders with each grade having its own team if numbers allow. Practices will be held after school at the Wainwright sports complex from 3:30-4:45. Shuttles will leave Mahoney at 3:00 and return approximately 5:15. At the Wainwright Complex the girls practice on field C3, games on Multi-purpose 2. Boys practice on field B3 and B4, games are on Multi-purpose 1.
Baseball - Open to 7th and 8th graders with each grade having its own team if numbers allow. Practices will be held after school at Mahoney. Practices will start on Monday, April 9th, at Mahoney from 3:15-4:45. Games will also be played at Mahoney.
Softball - Open to 7th and 8th graders with each grade having its own team if numbers allow. Practices will be held after school at the Wainwright sports complex from 3:30-4:45. Shuttles will leave Mahoney at 3:00 and return approximately 5:15. Practices and games will be held on Softball field 2 for 8th grade; practices will be on Softball field 4 and games on Softball field 2 for 7th grade.
Track and Field - Open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders. Practices will be held after school at Mahoney from 3:00-4:30.
SOPO Ultimate Frisbee - SOPO Rec. dept. does put together a 6-8 grade Ultimate Frisbee team. Practices are held at Wainwright fields and shuttles are provided from Mahoney to and from practices. Practices will be held on Multi-purpose field 3 and games will be on Quads D and E.
Extra-Curricular Eligibility - All athletes need a signed athletic contract (once per school year), signed concussion waiver (once per school year) and an updated physical on file (good for two calendar years) in order to participate. Students also need to maintain a HOW average of 2.5 in each of the three HOW criteria. Forms to be signed can be found on the athletics website.
Any student who wants to ride the van to the Boys and Girls club needs to pick up a form in the Main office.

Room 207 is open during IW days for students who want to use a laptop. Students can print, practice touch typing or learn to code. iPads are not in use in Rom 207.

Book check out for the year will end the last week of May. Please start returning overdue books and watch for overdue notices in homeroom this week. Ms. Gartley will begin contacting home about missing books next week.
