PARENT NOTES:
The Drama Club and the Library are joining forces to host this year’s October Monster Mash (formerly known as a dance)! We have decided to mix things up and provide not only a DJ for dancing but there will also be:
A movie (Hocus Pocus),
A haunted spot to visit (Room 11),
Face painting, hair painting (washable),
Thriller dance off,
Costume contest (scariest, most original, etc.),
Fortune teller (not real),
Pumpkin Decorating (real pumpkins)
Donut eating challenge (Cookie Jar donuts of course!),
Games (touch/guess what is in the box…. ewwwww),
Raffles (how many candy corn in a jar),
Snacks, drinks and PRIZES!!
So have your student bring extra change to enjoy some or all of our great goings on!
We are also looking for parent volunteers for the many tasks that come with creating this kind of event! Chaperoning, baking, decorating, pumpkin carving……..any help would be appreciated! I will really need some help making this all come together!! If you have ideas or suggestions…please share!

7th and 8th Honors band audition practices will be Tuesday after school and Wednesday before school next week. Auditions are next Wednesday, October 24th!
Training Jazz will rehearse Thursday morning next week. New members are welcome!
Performance Jazz will rehearse Tuesday and Friday mornings next week.The instrument repair man has started visiting Mahoney--he will be here every Monday at 1:00 p.m. If you need anything, see Mrs. Barry in 201!
Sports:
7th grade Boys Soccer ONLY @ Memorial. 2:55 bus, 3:45 game.
In the case of poor weather, cancellation decision will be made by 1:00pm and announcements will be made on our school website and our twitter pages.
7th and 8th Grade Boys Soccer - Practice at Mahoney from 3:00-4:30. Wednesdays and Fridays only.
7th and 8th Grade Girls Soccer - Practice at Mahoney from 3:00-4:30. Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
Field Hockey - Practice at Wainwright Fields, daily, from 3:45-5:15. The shuttle leaves Wainwright at 5:15
(to be brought back to Mahoney).
Tennis - Practice at SPHS Tennis courts, daily, from 3:00-4:30. There is NO return shuttle for Tennis.
Cross Country - Practice at Mahoney, daily, from 3:00-4:00.
Winter Sports: Signups are outside the main office at Mahoney for our first winter season. Basketball is open to 7th and 8th graders who meet our eligibility requirements below. Practices (or tryouts if numbers require) will begin Monday 11/5. Indoor Track and Swimming seasons will begin in February.
Sports Eligibility: Students must maintain a 2.5 HOW score, have an up to date physical on file and have signed up electronically through RankOne sports management. The website can be found here (https://southportland.rankonesport.com/New/Home.aspx).
Brown Elementary has asked us to remind students to not come on school grounds as they leave Mahoney in the afternoon. There is a lot of activity as the elementary students are dismissed and the adults are helping the younger students hop on the right bus or make their way to their parents. Thank you for reinforcing this with your student.
Homework Club runs from 3:00-4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting.. Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.
The cafeteria is open for breakfast everyday until 8:25. Please know that only those that are eating breakfast should be in the cafeteria at this time.

Mahoney's Environmental Club is called the Green Team, we meet on Tuesday afternoons, right after school in room 108, Mrs. Pitt's room.

There will be IW for grades 7 and 8 this afternoon.
There will be a SOPO UNITE student meeting Wednesday during workshop in Room 110 - anyone in 7th and 8th grade is welcome!
Just a reminder, phones should be turned off and either in your locker or bag for the entire day!
Homework Club runs today and will run from 3:00-4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting.. Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.
The cafeteria is open for breakfast everyday until 8:25. Please know that only those that are eating breakfast should be in the cafeteria at this time.
Students, please be reminded that bags and iPads should not be brought into the cafe at breakfast or lunch. Also, all food and drink, other than water, needs to be finish and disposed of prior to heading to class.
All students who have PE - remember to bring warm clothes as classes will still be heading outside!

The 8th grade boys soccer team won 3-2 yesterday. Joey Hanlon had a goal, assisted by Lucas Mehlhorn, and Jack Smart had two goals including the game winner. Kipp Gill had an excellent game all over the field.
