The JMG students are excited to announce that they are starting a monthly awareness campaign in an effort to raise students' awareness. One of the best parts about awareness days is that it shines a light on something you might not otherwise know about and inspires you to get involved.
JMG’s focus on Black History Month continues with our new Vice President. Kamala Harris started her political career in 2003. She was elected District Attorney of San Francisco, California. She specialized in protecting children and won a 20 billion settlement for californians whose lost their homes. She also won a 1.1 billion dollar settlement for students and veterans who were taken advantage of. Kamala defended the affordable care act, enforced environmental law and was a leader on marriage equality.
Kamala often shares a story about her mom while growing up. “My mother would look at me and she’d say ‘Kamala, you may be the first to do many things, but make sure you are not the last.’ That’s why breaking those barriers is worth it. As much as anything else, it is also to create that path for those who will come after us.”
Mrs. Barry reminds all 6th 7th and 8th grade band members to stop in to 201 Thursday or Friday to pick up their prize earned in band yesterday! Names are posted in your GC stream--great work everyone, thank you! If you can’t stop by, please email Mrs. Barry.
