Rippleffect:
The Spring session of Rippleffect begins in April. This session ends with a weekend-long expedition to Cow Island. Please encourage your student to come to the office for more information as there are limited spots remaining!
Athletics:
Practices for Indoor Track and Swimming will run through the month of March. Swimming practice will take place at the South Portland Community Center, with a shuttle bringing students to and from practice, and Indoor Track takes place right here at Mahoney. The past couple of years the PTA have asked students to sell Yankee Candle items in order to raise money. This year we have decided to do a 'No Frills' fundraiser. Many of you may be familiar with this idea. Instead of asking families to buy and sell items, we are looking for families to simply make a donation. Please click here for the details. As with any fundraiser, we thank you very much for your support!
South Portland School Department Phone Drive: Donate your old phone to help the SPSD InfoTech Department bring new and exciting technology to classrooms around the district!
What do we need?
● Use with VR headsets so students can take virtual field trips.
● Connect with Twitter or other social media platforms to share classroom learning in real time.
● Use as a controller for robotics or drones.
Where can you bring your phones?
First wipe your phone by doing a factory reset, then bring it to any of the schools in the district. There will be drop off boxes in the front offices.

Homework Club runs from 2:30-3:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school to get help from staff members. Each day there are 2 adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.
The cafeteria is open for breakfast everyday until 7:50. Please know that only those that are eating breakfast should be in the cafeteria at this time.
The chill in the air inside is an indication that cold weather is here. Please remember that students are expected to stay outside until the 7:35 bell rings. They should dress warmly or plan to arrive after 7:35.

Sports:
The Mahoney Indoor Track team had a great first meet of the season against King and Bonny Eagle. The boys team tied for first place and were led by double event winner Anthony Nixon. Also winning events for the boys were Nick Boudreau, T.J. Vose, Nick Swain, Drew Folley, Alex Kellogg, Lucas Melhorn, Liam Flaherty and the 6th grade relay team. Jack Smart shattered the school indoor record for the mile. The girls were led by individual event winners Evelyn Selser, Rachel Kingsley, Marcella Hesser, Ava Smart, Bonney Johnson and Annie vonSeggern. The 8th grade relay team also placed first.
The South Portland Rec Department is offering a Middle School Ultimate Frisbee club. This club is designed to introduce middle schoolers to the sport of Ultimate Frisbee as well as work on disc skills. Practices will begin March 20, please stop by the office for more information.
KidWind will be meeting after school today in the STEM room.
Music:
*Color Guard sign ups start NOW! Come join the fun. We have practice Fridays right after school in front of the auditorium. Come check it out and get ready for spring!
* The instrument repairman is here today. Instruments need to be in room 201 asap!
* 6th Honors band members must see Mrs. Barry today.
*Beginner Band runs on Mondays immediately after school in room 201. Today is for 6th graders only, reviewing the concert music.
*6th Honors Band will practice Tuesday after school and Wednesday before school. Our festival is this week!
*Performance Jazz will rehearse Tuesday and Friday mornings, starting at 7:15 a.m.
*Training Jazz will rehearse Thursday morning this week.
*Congratulations to the 7th and 8th Grade Honors Band and Chorus members. You had a wonderful festival weekend, working hard, and performing in an outstanding concert. Thank you for your hard work and persistence!
