Mahoney’s Ski and Snowboard Club sign-ups start on Thursday, November 1st. Students can pick up the forms at the main office or you can download them from our website. Remember, spots are limited, so if your student is interested, please be sure to complete the paperwork ASAP.

The SPHS Marching Band earned a 5-star Gold Rating at the State Finals Friday night. Members of this group include our own Maya Atkinson, Izzy Marchesi, Allison Bryant and Cameron Edwards. Congratulations!
Sports:
The final soccer games of the season are set to be played tonight versus Memorial at the High School.

In the case of poor weather, cancellation decision will be made by 1:00pm and announcements will be made on our school website and our twitter pages.
Winter Sports: Sign ups are outside the main office at Mahoney for our first winter season. Basketball is open to 7th and 8th graders who meet our eligibility requirements below. Practices (or tryouts if numbers require) will begin Monday 11/5. Indoor Track and Swimming seasons will begin in February.
Sports Eligibility: Students must maintain a 2.5 HOW score, have an up to date physical on file and have signed up electronically through RankOne sports management. The website can be found here (https://southportland.rankonesport.com/New/Home.aspx).
Brown Elementary has asked us to remind students to not come on school grounds as they leave Mahoney in the afternoon. There is a lot of activity as the elementary students are dismissed and the adults are helping the younger students hop on the right bus or make their way to their parents. Thank you for reinforcing this with your student.
Homework Club runs from 3:00-4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting.. Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.
The cafeteria is open for breakfast everyday until 8:25. Please know that only those that are eating breakfast should be in the cafeteria at this time.

Student Morning Announcements: Monday, October 29, 2018 Day 1
There will be IW for grades 6 and 7 this afternoon.
Just a reminder, phones should be turned off and either in your locker or bag for the entire day!
Homework Club runs today and will run from 3:00-4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting.. Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.

Students, please be reminded that bags and iPads should not be brought into the cafe at breakfast or lunch. Also, all food and drink, other than water, needs to be finish and disposed of prior to heading to class.
All students who have PE - remember to bring warm clothes as classes will still be heading outside!
Sports Notes:
Congratulations to the Mahoney XC team for a great season that ended last Thursday at the South Portland Municipal Golf Course. The 7th and 8th grade boys team finished 4th overall and the 6th grade boys finished first overall. The team will have an end of the year ice cream social Tuesday after school. Uniforms will be collected at this time so please bring your uniform.
Field Hockey won their final game last week by a score of 3-0!

Media Studies in the library is coming back! Next week we will dedicate four afternoons to Media Archaeology -- experience video games and internet of the 80s and 90s for yourself! The following week, we will have media studies sessions on intertextuality in Stranger Things, satire in Futurama, and emoji poetry. Space is limited so pre-registration is encouraged. See Ms. Gartley in the library for more info!
