Boys LAX - 4/1 start - Practice 3:30 - 4:45 at Wainwright. Shuttle leaving Mahoney at 3:00 and returning at 5:15 (weather permitting)

There will be a dance this Friday...admission is $6.00…...no theme, just a good time!!

Spring Sports Update: Due to field conditions, practices will be as follows for next week.
Outdoor track and Lacrosse will start Monday April 8th.
Baseball will have practice Tuesday (4/2) and Thursday (4/4) afternoon in the Mahoney gym.
Softball will have practice Monday (4/1) and Wednesday (4/3) afternoon in the Mahoney gym.

The Mahoney Variety Show (formally known as the Talent Show) is coming!! If you are interested in being in the show please attend the auditions Friday after school in the auditorium.

Dear 8th Grade Parents,

For more than 20 years, South Portland 8th Grades have participated in Job Shadow Day. It is an opportunity for our students to get out in the community and explore a wide variety of career options and pathways. This year, Mahoney and Memorial will be collaborating and doing Job Shadow Day together, on Tuesday, April 30. Also new this year are several added host sites and an electronic application. In addition to individual host sites, students will have an opportunity to 'Career Sample' for the day at Portland Arts and Technology High School, You will receive the electronic application packet on Thursday, March 28. It will be due on Tuesday, April 2. FMI contact your school Counselor, or Community Partnerships Director Jane Eberle at 773-5629, ext. 3432 or eberleja@spsdme.org.

South Portland Middle School Ultimate Team: All students are welcome to join the Ultimate Frisbee team--learn to huck the disc and lay out! Rippleffect: Rippleffect’s Spring program is open to 14, 6th and 7th grade students at Mahoney and is designed to develop leadership, confidence, awareness and interpersonal skills through outdoor adventure. The ROLE program consists of 4, 2.5 hour after-school sessions, a 3-day weekend on Cow Island, and a culminating graduation ceremony. Paperwork is available in the Main Office, there are 7 spots remaining!

While performance jazz continues to rehearse, it’s time to start Spring Jazz! See Mrs. Barry to sign up today.
Spring Jazz will meet for the first time next Tuesday, starting at 7:40 a.m.
Color Guard practices start next Wednesday after school.

Sports Eligibility: Students must maintain a 2.5 HOW score, have an up to date physical on file and have signed up electronically through RankOne sports management. The website can be found here (https://southportland.rankonesport.com/New/Home.aspx).

Brown Elementary has asked us to remind students to not come on school grounds as they leave Mahoney in the afternoon. There is a lot of activity as the elementary students are dismissed and the adults are helping the younger students hop on the right bus or make their way to their parents. Thank you for reinforcing this with your student.

Homework Club runs from 3:00-4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting.. Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.

The boys swim team will have their festival this afternoon at Riverton pool, while the Indoor track festival is tomorrow at the Expo.

Brown Elementary has asked us to remind students to not come on school grounds as they leave Mahoney in the afternoon. There is a lot of activity as the elementary students are dismissed and the adults are helping the younger students hop on the right bus or make their way to their parents. Thank you for reinforcing this with your student.

Homework Club runs from 3:00-4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting.. Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students. Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.

The cafeteria is open for breakfast everyday until 8:25. Please know that only those that are eating breakfast should be in the cafeteria at this time.

Color Guard will have a brief meeting Tuesday after school in front of the auditorium. If you’re interested, please attend!

Yearbook presale is happen now until april vacation. The cost is $27 and can be purchased with Mr. Patashnik before or after school. Yearbooks did sell out last year so come to preorder ASAP!

South Portland Middle School Ultimate Team: All students are welcome to join the Ultimate Frisbee team--learn to huck the disc and lay out! Practices will start indoors in April and then move outside when Wainwright fields are ready. The team will play games against other middle schools during the week and on several weekends. Sign up through the South Portland Rec Department: 767-7650.

The Mahoney Variety Show (formally known as the Talent Show) is coming!! We need acts in order to have a show...so if you are interested please sign up soon…. No acts...No show!!

Rippleffect is open this Spring for 6th and 7th graders - there are still a few spots available!!

There will be a girls lacrosse meeting today after school in room 110 for any 7th or 8th grader interested.

The Skatepark that a fellow Mahoney student collected signatures and proposed a couple of years ago is still going strong! Come to the City Council Meeting on tonight at 6:30 to show your support!

The School Store is open for business every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning before the 8:25 bell.

Students do you have a short story or a question for the Mahoney Weekly Raider Newspaper? Drop it off in the main office.

Students, please be reminded that bags and iPads should not be brought into the cafe at breakfast or lunch. Also, all food and drink, other than water, needs to be finish and disposed of prior to heading to class.

Sports Notes:
Spring sports sign ups are outside the main office. Baseball, softball and lacrosse is open to both 7th and 8th graders while outdoor track is open to all grades. Practices begin Monday, April 1st.

Music:
Honors jazz will practice Wednesday morning this week. .
Performance Jazz will rehearse Friday this week.
Beginner Band/Extra help will meet after school Tuesday.
While performance jazz continues to rehearse, it’s time to start Spring Jazz! See Mrs. Barry to sign up today.
