Hello Mahoney PTA families! We are meeting next Wednesday March 7th at 6:30pm in the Home Ec Room for our rescheduled/initial/running out of time Teacher Appreciation planning meeting! Mahoney families LOVE to show our appreciation for all that our teachers and staff do and therefore we host an epic Teacher Appreciation Week! We would love to gather thoughts, ideas, and put together a week full of treats, food, relaxation, and goodies. Thank you to all who can make it!
Please note that our school day officially begins at 8:10 with our cafeteria serving breakfast.  All students should be in their homerooms no later than 8:30 and the period 1 class begins at 8:35.  
Rippleffect is running what looks like a great program for kids ages 10-12 over February break.  Click here FMI!
 
Homework Club  will start Monday and run from 2:50-3:50 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Homework club is an opportunity for students to stay after school and complete homework or study in a quiet and safe setting..  Each day there will be at least one adult to supervise and support students.  Please note that only students who plan on using this time productively are welcome.

Rippleffect:
Rippleffect is back at Mahoney for 7th and 8th graders!  Signups for our spring session of the Rippleffect Outdoor Leadership Education (ROLE) begin on Monday, please stop by the main office of visit www.rippleffect.org for more information.  Due to the popularity of Rippleffect and its focus on leadership and team building attendance at all after school sessions is expected.

Music:
7th and 8th Honors Band members please remember to take your instruments and music home Thursday. You are meeting at the HS on Friday morning by 8:20 a.m. We will return before 2:00 on Friday.
6th Honors Band will practice Wednesday after school this week.
All band members have received a concert notice. It is also posted on Google Classroom. Please be aware of the details and due dates leading up to our concert on March 13th. That is today for full credit!
Training and Performance Jazz  rehearsals this  week; Important change:
Performance will rehearse Thursday morning this week. Training jazz will not rehearse this week. Training Jazz will rehearse Wednesday morning and Thursday morning next week;  Performance Jazz will also rehearse Monday morning next week and Tuesday morning.

Chorus Notes:7/8 Honors Festival
We will rehearse on Wednesday from 7:40-8:20. (Be prepared with Amatos order and money)

Students and Staff, let’s keep the kindness and respect recognition going!  Thank you for using the provided slips and recognize behavior that we value here.

We will draw the names right before lunch of the students who will head over to Nonesuch tomorrow morning.  Those chosen will need to wear their new Kindness t-shirts and be prepared to walk over to Mill Creek.  We will you let you know who is going during lunch today.

Please remember that there should not be any snowball throwing/making/fighting on school grounds, at bus stops or on your way to or from school.

Rippleffect:
There is only 1 spot available for this Spring rippleffect session.  If you are in 7th or 8th grade and thinking of signing up, bring completed paperwork to the office ASAP!

Here are some cool February break activities for students:
The South Portland School Department is offering a fun opportunity for some learning over the February break.  Perhaps your student would be interested in taking advantage of this program.  8-10 students, open to grades 6-12, will help to solve "The Mystery of Loon Lake" over February vacation. The mystery involves fish dying in a lake and they need to find out why. There are definite science components as students will be doing water quality testing, plus engineering as they will be building devices to try to solve the problem they discover.
The plan is to meet from 9-12:30, Tuesday-Friday.  Bussing could be provided, if needed.  FMI, please contact Mrs. Stilphen

Spring Sports Information:
Indoor Track - Open to all grades.  Practices run from 3:00-4:30 in Mahoney’s gym.

Swimming - Open to all grades.  Practices run from 3:20-4:20 at the SP Community Center.  A shuttle will be leaving Mahoney at 3:00 and returning to Mahoney around 4:45.  

Eligibility - All athletes need a signed athletic contract (once per school year), signed concussion waiver (once per school year) and an updated physical on file (good for two calendar years) in order to participate.  Students also need to maintain a HOW average of 2.5 in each of the three HOW criteria.  Forms to be signed can be found here.

There will be no Intervention Workshop this afternoon.

Signups are open for the Spring session of Rippleffect.  Rippleffect will meet four times after school this spring and end with a weekend at Cow Island.  Come to the office for more information and sign up quickly as spots are limited.

Students, have you thanked a peer or teacher yet this week?  When someone shows you kindness or respect, let them know!  Fill out one of the slips and give it to that person.  Remember, recognizing and thanking someone for their kindness, is one of the greatest acts of kindness!  And we know from the quotes read in the cafeteria, Kindness is Free!
